Chemours currently has a position available for an Environmental Manager for 3 locations- Chambers Works, Parlin, and Elkton that will based at Deepwater, NJ. This position will report to the Plant Manager.
The Environmental Manager is responsible to provide strategic leadership and program management for the environmental program(s) assigned to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, corporate policies, standards and guidelines, and site-specific requirements.
This position requires the environmental professional to perform environmentally technical work and to collaborate with site technical, operations, and maintenance personnel concerning environmental-related issues. The Environmental Manager will provide general environmental support for air, water, waste and other environmental regulatory and internal program requirements.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide technical guidance, expertise and leadership as a site environmental resource
- Lead interaction with regulatory agencies and other community groups
- Participate in environmental advocacy groups including Chemistry Council of New Jersey and Delaware River Basin commission.
- Provide operations support on Clean Water Act and NJPDES permits, Clean Air Act permits, Spill Prevention Controls and Countermeasures (SPCC)/NJ Discharge Prevention Controls and Countermeasures (DPCC), Storm Water Pollution Prevention and Best Management , groundwater protection
- Lead the compliance efforts for operations for adherence to Clean Air Act, New Source Review, New Source Performance Standards, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, MACT Standards, Title V or other air operating permits, calculation of emissions inventories, air emission reduction initiatives, and other associated air program requirements
- Provide program management for the site required federal and state Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) Program
- Provide oversight to site refrigeration management program and state and federal Greenhouse Gas Reporting programs
- Prepare required reporting to federal, state and local agencies, including SARA 312/313 (Community Right to Know and Toxic Release Inventory), Title V, MACT compliance reports, Air Emissions Inventory, Chemical Weapons Convention Act, Greenhouse Gas, Hazardous Waste, and the internal sustainability reporting programs
- Manage site NJ Toxic Catastrophe Prevention Action (TCPA) and associated EPA Risk Management Plan programs
- Participate in audits or other interactions with federal and state environmental agencies and respond to requests or notifications from environmental agencies
- Preparation and participate in negotiation of permit applications and renewals
- Complete environmental regulation applicability determinations
- Drive compliance activities with respect to regulatory and corporate requirements, routine and non-routine activities such as environmental impact assessments of operations projects or process changes.
- Lead and/or participate in investigation of environmental incidents, implement system improvements to reduce potential for future events
- Lead and participate in 1st party environmental audits, RC14001 EMS audits and site(s) 2nd party environmental audits
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
- BS in a technical discipline preferably in chemical or environmental engineering, environmental science, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 - 7 years of work experience in an environmental capacity within the manufacturing industry
- Strong leadership and ability to drive results in ambiguous situations
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
- Demonstrated functional/technical expertise and experience in environmental competencies such as air and water regulatory compliance, waste management, including associated permitting
- Superior written and oral communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to foresee and anticipate problems and make appropriate adjustments
- Ability to read and interpret complex regulations and to work with the site to ensure compliance. Environmental regulatory knowledge in air, water & solid/hazardous waste
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, achieving results on time and ability to influence/negotiate with others at various levels of the organization and with regulatory agencies
- Ability to work effectively with operations, technical and maintenance personnel and to positively interact with other environmental professionals and the business to maximize results
- Ability to take initiative, self-manage, identify what is needed and take effective action to bring about change and lead/implement
