Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The Environmental Manager provides environmental and permitting support for Pattern’s wind, solar, storage, and transmission development projects. This role assesses environmental risk, manages that risk throughout the development lifecycle, obtains required environmental permits and clearances, and supports environmental policy work as appropriate.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Manage environmental studies and permitting for wind, solar, storage, and transmission development projects, including coordination of regulatory strategies, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Assess environmental risks for development projects and communicate key risks, constraints, and mitigation recommendations to project teams and management.
• Obtain required environmental permits, approvals, and clearances from local, state, and federal agencies to support project development timelines.
• Supervise project environmental consultants, including managing scopes of work, task orders, schedules, budgets, work quality, and invoice review and approval.
• Conduct environmental due diligence for potential acquisitions and evaluate permitting, environmental, and regulatory considerations that may affect project value or development feasibility.
• Track pending local, state, and federal environmental regulations and policy developments that may impact Pattern’s business and development portfolio.
• Represent Pattern in industry conferences, working groups, and presentations to local organizations, agencies, and governments.
• Support broader project development activities as needed, including interconnection, land acquisition, stakeholder engagement, design and E&C planning, asset monetization, project planning, and budgeting.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

• Minimum of seven years of relevant work experience in environmental permitting, project management, business development, or a related field.
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously across different stages of development and adapting to shifting priorities, timelines, and resource constraints.
• Background in environmental and permitting matters, including familiarity with regulatory regimes across varied project locations.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with project developers, management, subject matter experts, consultants, agencies, and external stakeholders.
• Strong communication, organization, critical thinking, and time management skills, with a team-first approach.

Education

• Technical undergraduate degree in environmental science, engineering, natural resources, planning, or a related discipline; an advanced degree may be considered in lieu of a portion of the required experience.

Additional Requirements

• Ability to travel to project locations, agency meetings, industry events, and community or stakeholder meetings as business needs require.
• Ability to manage consultant workstreams, project schedules, budgets, permitting scopes, and documentation quality with limited supervision.
• Ability to represent Pattern’s positions in discussions with agencies, local governments, industry groups, and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated creativity, critical thinking, sound judgment, and professional communication in complex or changing project environments.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

• Knowledge of the renewable energy and electrical transmission industries.
• Experience with renewable energy permitting, environmental interactions with renewable energy resources, and county, state, and federal permitting processes.
• Experience contributing to environmental policy work, industry peer groups, or regulatory engagement.

The expected starting pay range for this role is $103,000 - $138,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
