Job summary

Jerritt Canyon Gold is seeking an experienced Environmental Manager to provide strategic leadership for environmental compliance, permitting, and environmental management across the operation in Nevada.   • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, or related.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive environmental experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years leadership/management experience.
  • Mining industry experience required; Nevada mining experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental compliance and permitting for active mining operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the site's environmental compliance and permitting programs across federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop and execute environmental strategies to support current operations and future growth.
  • Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies, managing permitting activities, inspections, audits, and communications.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Technical Services, Exploration, and Projects to integrate environmental requirements into planning.
  • Lead and develop the environmental team, set performance expectations, coach, and mentor.
  • Identify environmental risks and develop proactive solutions to balance compliance and efficiency.
  • Develop and manage the environmental department budget and ensure proper resource use.
  • Oversee preparation and submission of environmental reports, permit applications, monitoring data, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and implement programs or process improvements accordingly.
  • Lead or support environmental incident investigations and corrective action planning.
  • Provide technical guidance to site leadership on compliance, permitting strategy, and operations.
  • Promote a culture of environmental stewardship and regulatory excellence.

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

Jerritt Canyon Gold is seeking an experienced Environmental Manager to provide strategic leadership for all environmental compliance, permitting, and environmental management programs across the operation. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations while partnering closely with operational leadership to support safe, responsible, and sustainable mining activities.

The Environmental Manager will lead the site's environmental team, develop long-term environmental strategies, oversee permitting and regulatory relationships, manage environmental risk, and ensure environmental considerations are integrated into operational planning. This role serves as the primary environmental advisor to site leadership and represents the Company with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the site's environmental compliance and permitting programs, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Develop and execute environmental strategies that support current operations, future growth, and business objectives.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, managing permitting activities, inspections, audits, and regulatory communications.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Technical Services, Exploration, and Projects to ensure environmental requirements are incorporated into operational planning and future development.
  • Lead and develop the environmental team by establishing performance expectations, providing coaching, and fostering professional growth.
  • Identify environmental risks and develop proactive solutions that support operational efficiency while maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and manage the department budget and ensure resources are effectively utilized.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of environmental reports, permit applications, monitoring data, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Monitor changes to environmental regulations and implement programs or process improvements as necessary.
  • Lead or support environmental incident investigations and corrective action planning.
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations to site leadership regarding environmental compliance, permitting strategy, and operational initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of environmental stewardship, continuous improvement, and regulatory excellence across the operation.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, or a related technical discipline required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive environmental experience required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of leadership or management experience required.
  • Mining industry experience required; Nevada mining experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental compliance and permitting programs for active mining operations.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting processes, and environmental management systems.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with regulatory agencies and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
