Job summary

Element Resources operates a leading battery recycling facility and seeks a seasoned supervisor to manage bag houses, the wastewater treatment plant, and laboratory analysis. You will lead hourly staff, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and drive lean improvements across operations.

The role requires 8–10 years of supervisory experience, strong communication, and a background in analytical chemistry or industrial labs. 40-hour HAZWOPER training and OSHA/DOT knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Train, coach, mentor and lead plant hourly employees for improved performance.
• Monitor and support the safety culture by using STOP and Gemba programs.
• Encourage and engage in the development of hourly employees and Production Supervisors.
• Counsel and complete necessary documentation for training or corrective actions and violations of plant rules.
• Maintain safe working conditions and practices and operate the plant in compliance with OSHA and other environmental regulations.
• Audit standard work and ensure all employees adhere to standard practices.
• Assist Environmental Manager in supervision of environmental departments.
• Ensure environmental log sheets and regulatory logs are completed and filed correctly.
• Supervise correct responses and recording of incidences in the plant.
• Maintain 5S program for all work and office areas.
• Participate in lean Kaizen events.
• Conduct sampling for TCLP and SWMU guidelines.
• Carry out alloy and slag analyses and related operations.
• Conduct daily cooling water hardness tests and report to management.
• Operate laboratory equipment to ensure proper furnace operation.
• Work with spectrometer and wet chemistry testing equipment.
• Develop written procedures and perform other duties as assigned.

Overview

Element Resources operates one of the leading battery recycling facilities in the country and has been a mainstay in the Forest City community for over 30 years. Element provides an essential supply of recycled products to America's battery manufacturers to produce high-quality, top-performing batteries to power cars, trucks and forklifts, which are vital to keeping our country's supply chain running.

This position will be responsible for providing technical assistance and management of the bag houses, wastewater treatment facility, and laboratory analysis. Qualified candidate must be a self-starter with proven leadership and communication skills. Duties will include but are not limited to assisting the Environmental Manager with coordination of the work assigned to employees that work within the wastewater treatment plant and baghouses. Duties include but are not limited to assisting Environmental Manager in implementing SOP operations of the wastewater treatment plant, and baghouse maintenance and operations located at the Forest City Recycling Center. Candidate will be able to operate laboratory equipment to ensure proper furnace operation. Successful candidates will possess the ability to work with individuals from varied backgrounds, skills, and education levels to complete projects in an efficient and organized manner.

• Conduct sampling for TCLP as directed or as or as per SWMU guidelines.
• Carry out alloy analysis and direct the alloying of kettles to yield alloys as required by the customer.
• Carry out daily slag analysis and develop daily slag ternary systems.
• Conduct daily cooling water hardness tests and advise management accordingly.
• Have capabilities to run sulfur analysis using a LEKO on plant samples as directed from time to time.
• Work with a spectrometer and wet chemistry testing equipment
• Assist in the development of written procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Participate in lean Kaizen events.

Qualifications

• 8-10 years supervisory experience, with graduated levels of business experience.
• HS Diploma or equivalent required, 2 or 4-year college degree strongly preferred.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to administer and follow all safety rules and regulations.
• Experience with Maintenance software MP2 a plus.
• Experience with Toyota Production Systems, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma certification a plus.
• Experience with analytical chemistry in an industrial environment preferred.
• Ability to work independently in general wet chemistry and laboratory oil management (SPCC)
• Experience working in an industrial environment.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
• Working knowledge of DOT regulations.
• Experience with analytical chemistry in an industrial environment
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently exposed to fumes, dust, airborne particles, and extreme heat and humidity.
• While much work will be performed in an office setting, significant time will be required in the manufacturing facility, where additional exposure is likely.
• Noise levels in the manufacturing facility are usually high.
• All employees are required to wear full face respirators inside the manufacturing facility.
• Qualified candidates must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb with minimal effort.
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
