ACZ Laboratories, Inc. in Steamboat Springs, CO is seeking an Environmental Laboratory Chemist. You will conduct chemical analyses of soil, water, air, and hazardous waste to support environmental assessments and regulatory reporting.

The ideal candidate has a hard science degree, lab experience, and strong data quality discipline. You will calibrate instruments, document results, and contribute to safety and quality systems in a growing environmental testing lab.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a hard science (chemistry, environmental science, geology)
• Previous laboratory experience in a professional or academic setting; environmental lab experience is desirable
• Proficiency with laboratory instruments and techniques relevant to environmental analysis is desirable
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work independently and in a team
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficient with Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

• Conduct accurate and timely environmental sample analysis
• Prepare samples for analysis and perform chemical analyses using GC-MS, ICP-AES, and ICP-MS

As an Environmental Laboratory Chemist, you will be responsible for conducting chemical analyses and testing of environmental samples including soil, water, air, and hazardous waste. You will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and providing accurate data to support environmental assessments and projects. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge in analytical chemistry, attention to detail, and a passion for environmental sustainability.

Job Responsibilities

Conduct accurate and timely environmental sample analysis

• Prepare samples for analysis, including digestion, filtration, and dilution as required by standard operating procedures.
• Perform chemical analyses of environmental samples using various laboratory techniques and instruments (e.g., GC-MS, ICP-AES, ICP-MS).
• Ensure accurate analysis on environmental samples for various constituents to provide high-quality data that supports environmental monitoring and regulatory reporting.

Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and quality standards

• Execute EPA approved methods according to laboratory standard operating procedures.
• Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and advancements in analytical chemistry.
• Participate in the development and validation of new laboratory methods and procedures.
• Perform quality control checks and maintain records of laboratory activities.

Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments

• Clean laboratory equipment and facilities.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
• Monitor and maintain support equipment such as balances, ovens, and thermometers.

Document, review and report test results

• Prepare and review data.
• Analyze samples, verify results, and produce reports with data of known and documented quality.
• Maintain complete and accurate records of laboratory activities.
• Collaborate with project managers and other team members to meet project deadlines and deliverables.

Support laboratory safety, environmental protection and mission

• Learn, embrace, and adhere to ACZ's mission, core values, and quality system.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and laboratory safety protocols.
• Perform other duties as instructed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a hard science, with preference for chemistry, environmental science, or geology.
• Previous laboratory experience in a professional or academic setting (e.g. laboratory component of a Chemistry class). Previous experience in an environmental lab or analytical chemistry role is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in laboratory instruments and techniques relevant to environmental analysis is desirable.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong work ethic.
• Ability to sit, stand for long periods of time (2-6 hours), lift 25-50 pounds.

The pay range for this role is:

23.40 - 26 USD per hour (Steamboat Springs)
