Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology preferred; Associates considered.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic lab work including incubations for microbiological testing (~30%).
• Record data with computers and data-entry programs; report trends.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, QA, QC, and microbiology teams to meet quality goals.
• Adhere to safety, cleanliness, and regulatory requirements in cleanroom and controlled environments.
• Participate in rotating shifts and complete tasks within deadlines.

Environmental Lab Technician

Job Description

The Environmental Monitoring Technician performs routine environmental monitoring in aseptic processing and controlled cleanroom environments that support pharmaceutical manufacturing. This role conducts assigned quality control and quality assurance activities in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs). The position offers significant exposure to multiple career paths, including quality control, microbiology, manufacturing, quality assurance, and validation, making it an excellent entry point into a regulated pharmaceutical environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine environmental monitoring of aseptic processing areas and controlled cleanroom environments used in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Follow and apply proper aseptic techniques during testing of controlled environments and utility systems, including adherence to aseptic gowning protocols and procedures.
• Operate and monitor laboratory equipment and techniques such as SAS and SMA samplers, Met One particle counters, viable airborne monitoring (active and passive), total airborne particulate sampling, viable surface monitoring, personnel monitoring, and membrane filtration of water samples.
• Perform testing on Water for Injection (WFI) and gas sampling in accordance with established procedures and cGMP requirements.
• Utilize laminar flow hoods for plate reading and testing procedures as part of environmental and microbiological monitoring activities.
• Document all work accurately and completely in compliance with cGMPs, SOPs, and quality documentation standards.
• Spend approximately 70% of time on the manufacturing floor collecting environmental and utility samples in specific production suites.
• Perform basic laboratory work, including incubating samples for further microbiological testing, which comprises approximately 30% of the role.
• Use personal computers and data entry programs to record, track, and report environmental monitoring data.
• Collaborate and interact regularly with manufacturing, quality assurance, quality control, and microbiology teams to support production and quality goals.
• Adhere to all safety, cleanliness, and regulatory requirements while working in cleanroom, controlled, and radioactive manufacturing environments.
• Participate in a rotating shift schedule and complete all assigned monitoring tasks within the required timeframes.

Essential Skills

• Bachelors degree in Biology is preferred; an Associates degree will also be considered.
• Entry-level to approximately 2 years of relevant experience is ideal.
• Exposure to a microbiology laboratory or experience with aseptic techniques is strongly preferred.
• Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, laboratory, or other regulated environments is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of aseptic technique and aseptic gowning protocols.
• Familiarity with cGMP requirements and working in compliance-driven environments.
• Biology and microbiology knowledge applicable to environmental and microbiological monitoring.
• Experience or exposure to environmental monitoring in cleanroom or controlled environments.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while standing or being on feet for extended periods.
• Good computer skills, including use of personal computers and data entry programs for recording and managing data.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and sample handling.
• Ability to follow written procedures and SOPs consistently and precisely.

• Comfort working independently for significant portions of the shift while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Strong organizational skills to manage a mix of floor sampling and laboratory documentation activities.
• Effective communication skills to interact with manufacturing, QA, QC, and microbiology personnel.
• Willingness to work a rotating schedule that includes both first and second shifts, as well as weekend coverage when required.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic production and laboratory environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maryland Heights, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
