Job summary

Alternatives for Community & Environment Inc. (ACE) seeks a mission-driven Staff Attorney to advance environmental justice in Massachusetts.

Working with community organizers, attorneys, and partners, you will develop legal strategies, provide counsel, and support pro bono advocacy to confront environmental racism and housing injustice at the neighborhood level. This hybrid, full-time position in Boston reports to the Director of Policy and Law, offers a salary of $80,000–$105,000 and benefits

Qualifications

• Legal research, writing, advocacy, and community engagement skills.
• Ability to engage communities and mobilize partnerships.
• Fluency in a second language commonly spoken in Greater Boston or MA.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel, research, strategic legal support, and policy advocacy for ACE’s campaigns and grassroots organizing.
• Conduct outreach to community groups to identify clients and opportunities for collaboration, and build relationships with partners.
• Develop protocols to respond to urgent community needs and expand EJAN’s services and partnerships.
• Coordinate referrals to ACE staff, pro bono attorneys, and external resources to expand EJAN’s capacity.
• Draft legal, policy, and communications materials highlighting ACE and EJAN’s work for diverse audiences.
• Track activities, referrals, cases, and program metrics; assist with grant reporting and evaluations.
• Contribute to program planning, fundraising, and organizational priorities for environmental justice goals.
• Represent ACE at community meetings, coalitions, and professional events.
