Job summary

Stantec is seeking an entry-level Environmental Inspector to support regulatory permitting and project delivery. Based in New York, you will work with the Environmental Services team to conduct SWPPP and project inspections and help prepare permit applications and compliance summaries.

You will collaborate with regulatory specialists, document on-site activities, and assist with environmental and HSE considerations while supporting project teams from pre- to post-permitting stages.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Agricultural Science or related field.
  • NYSDEC DEC 4-hour Erosion and Sediment Control Training required prior to project start.
  • Experience with inspections supporting land disturbing activities and SWPPP compliance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Daily Project Inspections and SWPPP Inspections.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Environmental and Regulatory Specialists to ensure consistency.
  • Assist in creating technical documents for regulatory submissions, permits and SWPPP summaries.
  • Provide technical and regulatory support through pre- and post-permitting stages.
  • Explain permit commitments to contractors and monitor compliance.
  • Maintain on-site presence to document work and address compliance issues.
  • Support Health, Safety and Environment policies and coordinate with HSE professionals.
  • Participate in team and independent work.

Job description

Stantec is currently seeking an entry-level Environmental Inspector to provide technical support on a variety of projects for Stantec. This position will be part of Stantec’s Environmental Services team that provides the full range of expertise needed to address a variety of permitting and approval requirements for various land disturbing projects. Our staff members have established excellent working relationships with regulatory agencies throughout New York State, and our regulatory knowledge and scientific expertise allow us to help our clients develop the most effective approach to securing regulatory approvals and project delivery.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Daily Project Inspections and SWPPP Inspections.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other Environmental and Regulatory Specialists to ensure consistency in project execution.
  • Assist in the creation of technical documents in support of regulatory submissions, including permit applications, SWPPP and compliance summaries.
  • Provide technical and regulatory support for development projects in both the pre-project permitting stage and post-approval stage.
  • Understand project specific permit commitments and inform contractor of obligations as needed.
  • Consistent presence on the project site while construction and restoration are being performed to document work and head of compliance related issues.
  • Support implementation of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSE professionals during the execution of all phases of project planning and implementation.
  • Participate in team and independent based work.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience with inspections that support land disturbing activities requiring SPDES, SWPPP compliance.
  • Strong technical writing skills, effective communication, attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Section 404/401 permitting, SPDES/stormwater permitting, wetland and stream issues, technical reports, and compliance.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations and permitting requirements as they pertain to wetlands, natural resources, cultural resources and land disturbance.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word, SharePoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to independently manage time and work within established budgets.
  • Demonstrated team player with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with good driving record.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Agricultural Science or related field.
  • NYSDEC DEC 4-hour Erosion and Sediment Control Training will be required prior to project start.
