Job summary

Stantec is seeking Environmental Inspectors to support our Petaluma office. You will provide field and technical support on water and waste management projects and other environmental programs.

Responsibilities include data collection, multi-media sampling, field documentation, health and safety compliance, and timely reporting. Travel and weekend work may be required as projects progress.

Qualifications

  • College degree in earth science, geology, natural or environmental science, or engineering.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.
  • 10-hour OSHA Construction training is beneficial.
  • CAC/CSST or QSP certification is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document field data collection activities; assist in project work, including timesheets, data management, analysis, and report preparation.
  • Conduct multi-media sampling (soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, wastewater, NORMs).
  • Complete fieldwork documenting site activities, sampling, and water monitoring; discharge where required.
  • Prepare health and safety documents and attend client safety meetings; follow procedures.
  • Prepare daily summaries and site diagrams; submit reports to online systems.
  • Learn and follow standard operating procedures for tasks.

Job description

We are currently seeking Environmental Inspectors who will work with Stantec’s Environmental group out of our Petaluma office. The successful candidate will provide field and technical support services on a variety of projects relating to water and waste management, and other environmental programs.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and document field data collection activities; assist in the completion of project level work (daily timesheets and work plans, data management, analyze field and technical data, and report preparation) on environmental management projects;
  • Conduct multi-media sampling (soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, wastewater, naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORMs) etc.);
  • Completion of fieldwork, including documenting site activities, soil and groundwater sampling, soil characterization, monitoring water quality, and discharging water to surface;
  • Prepare appropriate health and safety documents and participate in client health and safety meetings and adhere to Stantec and our clients’ safety procedures;
  • Prepare daily summary emails and site diagrams and submit reports to online reporting systems; and
  • Learn and follow standard operation procedures for work assignments.
Your Capabilities
  • Show initiative in integrating creativity and innovation in all work tasks;
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Motivated / driven, conscientious, organized, and well disciplined;
  • Working experience at active construction sites;
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment;
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required;
  • Willing to travel and able to be out-of-town for extended periods of time;
  • Some weekend work will be required;
  • Experience in environmental sampling, construction, stormwater and environmental compliance monitoring preferred;
  • Use of in-field sampling \ testing equipment such as pH monitors, HACH meters, colorimetric test kits, etc.;
  • Strong communication skills and be able to speak clearly, confidently, and effectively with construction contractors, project team, and clients; and
  • Ability to understand a project’s environmental compliance needs, identify issues of non-compliance, coordinate to ensure needed corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner, and follow through to ensure overall project success and compliance.
Experience, Education and Credentials
  • College degree with a concentration in earth science, geology, natural or environmental science, or engineering from an accredited college preferred;
  • 40-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training;
  • 10-hour OSHA Construction training is beneficial, but not required;
  • Current certification as a CAC or CSST is beneficial, but not required; and
  • QSP certification is beneficial, but not required.

Pay Range
  • Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA areas-$57,900.00 - $81,100.00 Annually
Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
