Job summary

Orano Med Theranostics in Plano, TX, is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to lead Radiation Safety and EHS programs for the DDPU operations. The role serves as the subject matter expert on OSHA, EPA, NRC, DSHS, and TCEQ regulations and company directives.

You will develop policies, conduct routine radiation surveys, manage RAM inventory, waste, and spill preparedness, deliver training, and drive continuous improvement through KPIs and audits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) with 3+ years of radiopharmaceutical operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field, with at least 1 year of industry experience.
  • AU, RSO, OSHA 40 training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain Radiation Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and control of radioactive materials (RAM).
  • Oversee the radioactive waste management program, including storage, decay-in-storage, and disposal in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct routine radiation surveys, facility inspections, and internal audits to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs, including the Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Manage chemical safety programs, including inventory control, labeling, storage, disposal, and fire protection considerations.
  • Ensure proper hazardous material spill preparedness, including maintaining response equipment and supplies.
  • Deliver radiation safety and EHS training to employees, promoting a strong culture of safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide guidance on the safe handling of radioactive and hazardous materials.
  • Perform hazard assessments (process, job, and worksite) and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Lead incident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Track and report safety metrics (KPIs).
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans for facility.
  • Support regulatory inspections and audits (e.g., NRC, Agreement State, OSHA).

Orano Med has developed new processes for producing high-purity lead-212, a rare radioactive isotope. Lead-212 is currently at the heart of promising research projects in nuclear medicine to develop new treatments against cancer. The innovative approach, known as targeted alpha therapy (TAT), recognizes and destroys cancer cells while limiting the impact on nearby healthy cells.

This position manages the DDPU Radiation Safety and Environmental Health & Safety programs and serves as the subject matter expert for safety regulations impacting the various departments. Duties include developing policies and procedures in accordance with applicable regulations such as but not limited to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and Company directives.

RSO (Radiation Safety Officer) / EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications :
