Job summary
Harnett County Department of Public Health is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist for the Onsite Wastewater program. This role focuses on promoting public health through education, surveillance, inspection and enforcement of environmental health laws related to onsite wastewater disposal and inspection of food, lodging, institutional and related facilities as mandated by the state.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field or EHAC-accredited program with one year of environmental health experience.
- Registration or license as Environmental Health Specialist or eligibility to obtain within 60 days of employment.
Responsibilities
- Perform on-site evaluations of proposed sites for dwellings, subdivisions, and other developments not served by public sewer.
- Issue improvement, construction, and operation permits as required.
- Collect water samples and assess wells for construction compliance.
- Conduct on-site visits for investigations, permits, and educational purposes.
- Prepare reports, letters, and memoranda.
