Job summary

Amgen Inc. is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager to lead the design, development and implementation of safety programs across operations in Puerto Rico. The role requires strong regulatory knowledge and experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech sector.

Ideal candidates will possess advanced degrees and a proven ability to collaborate with external agencies, manage audits, and drive continuous improvement in EH&S performance, including training and stakeholder engagement.

Environmental, Health & Safety Manager

In this vital role you will provide technical expertise for the management of Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) programs at Amgen. Perform duties for program design, development and implementation. Recognized as a technical EH&S specialist within Amgen. Independently take actions with impact in area of responsibility and programs. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: Ensure compliance with EH&S federal, state, and local regulations. Focus on Environmental Air Program. Evaluate existing and new regulations’ impact upon Amgen operations. Develops new programs and implement changes as necessary and provides recommendations to senior management. Primary contact for EH&S regulatory agencies and be recognized as a program liaison with external agencies. Prepare for and conduct inspections with agency representatives. Prepare responses notice of violations, proposed compliance orders, cease and desist orders to ensure Amgen liability is minimized. Evaluates current and future operations to determine strategic and global initiatives regarding the development and implementation of EH&S programs. Assess EH&S practices to manage Amgen’s long‑term liability for planning, acquisitions, etc. Make recommendations and provide resources for the development and implementation of EH&S training programs for Amgen staff. Implement & document procedures/policies for Amgen operations. Developing program changes necessary to support global business objectives. Analyze existing and future processes; assess regulatory impact of future changes, and benchmark against industry standards to identify efficient solutions to reduce EH&S impacts upon operations. Design and implement programs for conducting periodic audits/inspections of Amgen operations. Provide recommendations on audit protocols and technical expertise for internal audit program.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications: Doctorate degree OR Master’s degree and 2 years of EH&S experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of EH&S experience OR Associate’s degree and 8 years of EH&S experience OR High school diploma / GED and 10 years of EH&S experience Beyond that, additional preferred qualifications are: Academic degree in Engineering or Science Strong technical proficiencies in the Environmental Compliance regulatory field and interacting with government agencies Experience leading programs development and/or EHS projects management. Experience in the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and/or Biotechnology industry. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software systems. Effective written and verbal communication in English and Spanish, including technical writing and computer literacy.
