Job Summary:

The EHS Manager is responsible for ensuring the company's compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations within the manufacturing environment. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining EHS programs and initiatives to minimize environmental impact, safeguard employee health and safety, and ensure the organization adheres to local, state, and federal regulations. The EHS Manager will work closely with other departments to create a safe and environmentally responsible workplace while fostering a culture of continuous improvement in EHS performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, FDA, and other applicable regulations).
    • Stay current with regulatory changes and assess their impact on the organization’s EHS policies and practices.
    • Lead and coordinate internal and external audits (e.g., regulatory inspections, third-party audits) and develop corrective action plans to address any non-compliance findings.
  • EHS Program Development & Implementation:
    • Design, implement, and continuously improve EHS management systems, policies, and procedures.
    • Develop and monitor key EHS performance indicators (KPIs) and track performance to ensure objectives are met.
    • Implement workplace safety protocols, including hazard identification, risk assessments, and emergency response procedures.
    • Oversee waste management programs, ensuring proper handling, storage, disposal, and recycling of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with regulations.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops for employees on safety practices, environmental sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop safety awareness programs and conduct regular safety drills (e.g., fire, spill containment, and evacuation procedures).
  • Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility throughout the organization.
  • Identify potential EHS risks and hazards in manufacturing processes, equipment, and operations, and provide recommendations for mitigation.
  • Conduct root-cause analyses and investigations of workplace accidents, incidents, near misses, and environmental breaches, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage the organization’s safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) program, ensuring proper usage, availability, and maintenance.
  • Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship:
    • Drive environmental sustainability initiatives, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, emissions control, and resource conservation.
    • Manage environmental reporting and ensure compliance with environmental permits, emissions limits, and waste disposal regulations.
    • Assist in the preparation of environmental impact assessments for new projects, facility expansions, or new equipment installations.
  • Work cross-functionally with operations, production, quality control, maintenance, and other departments to ensure EHS integration into all aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Prepare and present regular EHS reports to senior management, including performance summaries, compliance status, and areas for improvement.
  • Participate in industry groups, committees, and conferences to stay informed about emerging EHS trends, best practices, and regulatory changes.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in EHS management, with at least 3 years in a pharmaceutical or similar regulated industry.
    • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, quality control, and compliance regulations (FDA, EPA, OSHA, etc.).
    • Experience in managing EHS programs, conducting risk assessments, and performing safety audits.
  • Certifications:
    • Certification in EHS management (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar credentials) preferred.
    • Knowledge of ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems) is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and educate employees at all levels.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
