Job summary

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer to support construction projects across several Texas and Oklahoma sites, including Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and Tulsa.

Candidates should hold a Bachelor's degree in an EHS-related field and a recognized safety certification (BCSP GSP or ASP). The position emphasizes site inspections, incident investigations, permit evaluations and promotion of a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Minimum accreditations include a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety and a recognized safety professional certification (examples: BCSP GSP or ASP).
• Desirable: strong teamwork, commitment to safety culture, and professional communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular job site inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
• Support incident investigations with interviews, data, photos and proper documentation.
• Evaluate planning/permits such as Hot Work, Confined Space, Fall Protection and Excavation.
• Apply Industrial Hygiene concepts for hearing conservation, silica, asbestos, lead work and related areas.
• Understand fire protection and flammable materials storage/management.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
• Duties may include other site- and safety-related tasks as needed.

Seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer for construction projects.

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company (WT) provides construction management services to numerous clients in a multitude of business sectors, throughout the United States. WT Business Offices have delivered successful construction projects in healthcare, higher education, laboratories, business offices, manufacturing, retail development, food processing and warehouse development. Construction activities are unlimited and require the EH&S Engineer to have a broad range of technical and managerial expertise.

Minimum candidate Accreditations

• Bachelor's Degree in an Environmental Health and Safety Related field
• Recognized Safety Professional Certification (examples)
  • BCSP (GSP or ASP)

Successful candidates must demonstrate the following experience and/or capabilities

• Perform regular job site inspections to identify, document and recommend mitigation of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions and verify correction actions have been completed.
• Support incidents investigations to include interviews, data compilation, photographs and completing proper documentation.
• Evaluate various planning/permits such as: Hot Work, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Excavation, Steel Erection, Energized Work, Pre-cast Tilt-Up as examples for effective and appropriate mitigation techniques.
• Industrial Hygiene principles and techniques involved in Hearing conservation, Lasers, Silica, Asbestos, Lead work, as examples.
• Understanding of fire protection, flammable/combustible materials storage/management.
• Working knowledge of OSHA Regulations
• The preceding experience and capabilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing and other duties will be assigned based on the needs of the site and safety/field management varying by location, within the business unit.

Working Conditions

• Work is conducted in both indoor office settings, and outdoor constructions jobsite settings requiring sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending.
• Work hours will be determined at the Project or work assignment basis.
• Noise level varies based on location.
• Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
• Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to, steel toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)
