Job summary

SpaceX is hiring an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer in Hawthorne, CA. The role oversees regulatory compliance and safety program development across OSHA, NFPA, and NIOSH standards, with focus on hazard assessments and incident investigations.

Responsibilities include implementing machine guarding, LOTO, and exposure monitoring, plus leading policy updates and audits to ensure a safe workplace for all employees.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA and NIOSH and other applicable regulatory agencies
  • Implement and develop safety and health programs including but not limited to:
    • OSHA general industry and construction standards
    • Confined space, fall protection, machine guarding, and lock-out/tag-out
  • Collaborate with department leadership to complete job hazard assessments and implement health and safety policies and procedures
  • Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards
  • Understand and implement machine guarding where needed
  • Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employees
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Complete and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification audits
  • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes, corrective actions and preventive measures
  • Ensure hazards are being appropriately addressed and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessments are created.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of experience in the design, development and operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety
  • Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Familiarity and implementation of machine guarding and industrial hygiene programs
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area
  • Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:

  • Level 1: $95,000.00 - $125,000.00
  • Level 2: $110,000.00 - $150,000.00

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
