Job summary

Radiant, an El Segundo, CA-based startup, seeks an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to own EHS programs across multiple sites. You will lead OSHA/Cal-OSHA compliance, develop safety programs, training, and incident investigations, partnering with engineering and facilities to embed safety in daily operations.

You will drive risk reduction, implement environmental and hazardous materials controls, and support continuous improvement in a lean, fast-moving manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing or regulated environments.
• Experience building and implementing EHS strategies and programs.
• Deep knowledge of OSHA/Cal-OSHA, fire safety, hazmat, and environmental rules.
• Comfortable as the primary EHS owner in a fast-moving org.

Responsibilities

About Radiant

Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to 5 years without refueling. Portable nuclear power with rapid-deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development leverages modern software engineering to rapidly deliver safe, factory-built microreactors that use existing, well-qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.

About the Role

We are looking for an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to serve as the company EHS authority supporting Radiant's multi-site manufacturing and operations in a lean, fast-moving environment. This role owns the strategy, development, implementation, and execution of EHS programs and initiatives that protect employees, ensure regulatory compliance, and scale with the business. The EHS Manager maintains a strong shop-floor presence and partners closely with the engineering, manufacturing, and facilities teams to identify hazards, reduce risk, and embed safety and compliance into daily operations. This role balances hands-on field engagement with strategic thinking, change management, program ownership, regulatory interface, and continuous improvement leadership.

Responsibilities & duties:

Develop Radiant's EHS strategy and own the related implementation roadmap, based on both regulatory compliance and first-principles thinking around business risk.

• Work with the executive team and cross-functional leadership to affect change throughout the organization and lead Radiant through its next phase of EHS and operational maturity.

• Serve as company- and site-level authority for OSHA / Cal-OSHA compliance, including inspections, regulatory correspondence, record-keeping, and corrective action management.

• Develop, implement, and maintain required safety programs(e.g., IIPP, Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Electrical Safety, Hot Work, Contractor Safety) to support a growing multi-site, multi-State manufacturing operation.

• Develop and lead all safety trainings for the organization as needed.

• Define and maintain PPE requirements, conduct hazard assessments, and ensure proper selection, training, and usage.

• Own emergency preparedness programs, including Emergency Action Plans, evacuation procedures, drills, and emergency response coordination.

• Partner with the facilities team on fire suppression, alarm, detection systems, and other relevant programs.

• Partner with shop-floor teams to identify supportive EHS solutions and embed the EHS mindset into daily work.

• Track and report on key EHS metrics: drive proactive risk reduction.

• Lead incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis for injuries, fires, spills, near-misses, and emergency events.

Manufacturing & operations risk mitigation:

• Partner closely with the manufacturing and operations teams to identify hazards and implement engineering and administrative controls.

• Evaluate EHS risk for new processes, equipment, tooling, and work centers prior to installation or commissioning to influence design decisions and ensure safety requirements are met.

• Maintain a regular shop-floor presence to identify hazards, observe operations and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Hazardous materials & waste management:

• Own hazardous materials management, including inventory, SDS, labeling, storage compatibility, locations and quantities.

• Ensure compliant handling and storage of hazardous materials, including flammable and combustible materials.

• Manage hazardous waste accumulation areas, manifests, inspections, and disposal vendor coordination.

Environmental compliance & permitting:

• Manage and maintain environmental permits and programs, including hazardous materials, hazardous waste, air emissions, wastewater, and stormwater.

• Ensure permit conditions and regulatory requirements are implemented, documented, and routinely verified.

• Lead environmental inspections and regulatory interactions with local, state, and federal agencies as required.

• Partner with facilities team on modifications, construction, and equipment installations to ensure safety and environmental requirements are addressed.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, safety engineering, industrial engineering, environmental science, or a related field.

• 5+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing, industrial, or regulated environments.

• Experience building, developing, and implementing EHS strategies and programs.

• Deep working knowledge of OSHA / Cal-OSHA, fire safety, hazardous materials management, and environmental compliance requirements.

• Comfortable acting as the primary EHS owner in a lean, fast-moving organization.

• Proven ability to work crosse-functionally to affect change and embed EHS practices into daily operations.

• Experience working with high-pressure and high-temperature machinery, especially custom-built equipment, is a plus.
