Role Overview:

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will be responsible for establishing and leading the company’s EHS programs across manufacturing, laboratory, test, warehouse, and office environments. This role requires a hands‑on leader who is equally comfortable developing long‑term strategy, creating policies and procedures, conducting facility inspections, delivering training, investigating incidents, and partnering with engineering and operations teams to solve complex safety challenges.

The ideal candidate is a builder who thrives in fast‑paced environments, possesses strong technical knowledge of occupational safety and environmental compliance, and understands how to create practical solutions that support innovation while protecting employees, contractors, visitors, and company assets.

Responsibilities:
  • Build, implement, and scale Chaos Industries' Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs across manufacturing, laboratory, testing, warehouse, and office environments.
  • Develop EHS policies, procedures, training, metrics, and reporting systems that support operational growth and regulatory compliance.
  • Own and administer core safety programs including Lockout/Tagout, Electrical Safety, Hazard Communication, Contractor Safety, Machine Guarding, PPE, Emergency Response, Hazardous Waste Management, and related programs.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations, driving corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead incident, injury, property damage, and near‑miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action management.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to integrate safety into equipment, processes, facility planning, and day‑to‑day operations.
  • Manage environmental compliance activities, permits, regulatory reporting, hazardous materials programs, and waste management processes.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training, coaching, and employee engagement initiatives that strengthen a proactive safety culture.
  • Serve as the company's primary EHS subject matter expert and lead interactions with regulatory agencies, auditors, customers, and external stakeholders as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of EHS experience supporting manufacturing, aerospace, defense, industrial, laboratory, or similarly complex operational environments.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and managing EHS programs, including incident investigations, risk assessments, audits, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and applicable environmental regulations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of an organization.
  • Self‑directed and comfortable building programs in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment.
  • Ability to work onsite across office, manufacturing, laboratory, warehouse, and outdoor environments; wear required PPE; walk operational areas for extended periods; occasionally lift up to 25 pounds; and travel periodically to support company operations and testing activities.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience serving as the primary or sole EHS professional within a startup, high‑growth company, or rapidly scaling operation.
  • Experience supporting advanced manufacturing, robotics, autonomous systems, high‑voltage systems, battery systems, laboratories, or test operations.
  • Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, CHMM, CIH, or GSP.
  • Experience implementing or managing ISO 14001, ISO 45001, AS9100, or similar management systems.
  • Experience supporting government programs, classified environments, or defense‑related operations.
  • Experience working within research and development environments.
