Job summary

Verdesian Life Sciences is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety Coordinator to lead on-site safety programs at our Utah facility. The role focuses on daily floor presence, near-miss investigations, hazard reviews, and coaching to reinforce safe behaviors.

You will develop training, manage regulatory reporting (EPA/RCRA, DOT, state agencies), conduct risk assessments, and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent experience.
• ASP or CSHM certification preferred.
• Working knowledge of Utah regulatory requirements (South Salt Lake).
• Experience with EHS management systems (e.g., Velocity, Enhesa Compliance) is a plus.
• Spanish communication skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Be Aware, Take Care program, promoting active employee participation, daily hazard reviews, and continuous improvement.

• Support and lead risk assessments and hazard identification activities.
• Develop, review, and execute accident investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and safety alerts.
• Implement site-specific safety programs, emergency response plans, and corrective action initiatives.

Safety Leadership & Engagement

• Maintain a daily presence on the production floor, building trust and visibility with operators.

Training & Development

• Develop and deliver comprehensive HS training and onboarding for:
• Employees
• Contractors
• Ensure training emphasizes regulatory requirements, safe work practices, and site-specific hazards.

Regulatory Compliance & Reporting

• Manage regulatory reporting, permit applications, and required documentation to maintain compliance with:
• EPA / RCRA
• DOT
• Local and state agencies
• Participate in reviews and approvals of:
• New chemicals introduced to the site
• Capital projects impacting HS or environmental compliance
• Track, analyze, and report HS metrics, including:
• Incident and injury rates
• Compliance performance
• Leading and lagging safety indicators
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Proven ability to motivate teams and drive a strong safety culture.
• Demonstrated expertise in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to build credibility and trust with hourly operators and supervisors.
• Action-oriented mindset focused on engagement and results—not bureaucracy.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent experience.
• Safety certification preferred:
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or
• Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM)
• Working knowledge of Utah and South Salt Lake regulatory requirements.
• Experience with EHS management systems (e.g., Velocity, Enhesa Compliance) is a plus.
• Spanish communication skills are a plus.
