Job summary

The Jefferson County Department of Health seeks a qualified Environmental Health Director to plan, direct, and oversee personnel, financial, and operational activities. Responsibilities include reviewing and certifying engineering plans, guiding staff, and managing the department's budget with financial planning.

The role also engages in internal and external public relations, including media appearances and community events.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in environmental health sciences, natural sciences or public health sciences.
• Experience supervising staff, including performance evaluations and training.
• Experience developing and maintaining departmental budgets.
• Experience obtaining and maintaining state or federal grants.
• Experience with strategic planning in government or public health.

Responsibilities

• Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work and monitoring progress.
• Prepares, monitors, and administers the department budget within annual limits.
• Procures and manages inventory to support department operations.
• Develops and implements strategic plans aligning with the department mission.
• Manages department projects with outside agencies and vendors.
• Reviews and updates department policies and ensures consistency and compliance.
• Represents the department in internal and external public relations activities.
