Job summary

Mesabi Metallics in Minnesota is seeking an Environmental Field Technician to assist in monitoring and managing environmental impact across the mining operation. You will collect data, ensure compliance with environmental laws, and support programs under supervision of engineers and safety officers.

This role requires attention to detail, ability to work independently or in a team, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with environmental regulations (e.g., MPCA, EPA standards, local mining regulations) and testing methods.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, ability to work independently and in a team, excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Field Data Collection: Conduct environmental sampling (e.g., ore, water, soil) and inspections at various locations within the mining operation.
• Monitoring: Regularly monitor environmental conditions, including dust control, water quality, and biodiversity, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Reporting and Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate records of environmental conditions, sampling results, and compliance reports.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure activities comply with federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and mining permits; assist in permits/documents for environmental assessments.
• Environmental Assessments: Conduct site inspections to assess environmental risks and identify areas for improvement.
• Health & Safety: Adhere to PPE and safety standards while performing environmental field tasks.
• Environmental Programs Support: Assist in waste management, reclamation, and biodiversity conservation.
• Collaboration: Work with environmental consultants, regulators, and other departments to resolve issues.
• Data Analysis: Analyze environmental data and prepare reports to support decision-making.
