Job summary

KEMRON Environmental Services in Atlanta, GA is seeking an Environmental Estimator to develop accurate cost estimates, perform quantity takeoffs, obtain subcontractor pricing, and support proposal development for environmental remediation, construction, demolition, waste management, and related field services projects.

This role collaborates with project managers, operations, procurement, safety, and proposal teams to develop competitive bids that meet regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in environmental science, construction management, engineering, geology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years of estimating experience in environmental services, construction, remediation, or related field.
  • Strong Excel skills; ability to build and maintain detailed estimate workbooks.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, scopes of work, drawings, and contract requirements.
  • Experience with takeoff software (Bluebeam, PlanSwift) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review project plans, specs, scopes of work, drawings, contract requirements, and bid documents.
  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, disposal, and other costs.
  • Develop cost estimates for remediation, excavation, soil handling, waste projects.
  • Request and track quotes from subcontractors, vendors, labs, and disposal sites.
  • Maintain estimating spreadsheets, bid logs, pricing databases, and historical cost records.
  • Prepare bid packages, proposals, schedules, clarifications, exclusions, and cost breakdowns.
  • Coordinate with project managers, field staff, safety, and procurement to confirm production rates and requirements.
  • Participate in site walks, pre-bid meetings, and field assessments to evaluate conditions and risks.
  • Identify risks, exclusions, assumptions, and cost impacts during estimating.
  • Ensure estimates reflect regulatory requirements.

Job description

The Environmental Estimator is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates, reviewing bid documents, preparing quantity takeoffs, obtaining subcontractor and vendor pricing, and supporting proposal development for environmental remediation, construction, demolition, waste management, and related field services projects. This position works closely with project managers, operations, procurement, safety, and proposal teams to develop competitive and compliant bids.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
  • Review project plans, specifications, scopes of work, drawings, contract requirements, and bid documents.
  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, disposal, transportation, and other project costs.
  • Develop cost estimates for environmental remediation, excavation, soil handling, groundwater treatment, asbestos or lead abatement, demolition, and hazardous and non-hazardous waste projects.
  • Request and track quotes from subcontractors, vendors, laboratories, waste facilities, and disposal sites.
  • Maintain estimating spreadsheets, bid logs, pricing databases, and historical cost records.
  • Prepare and support bid packages, proposals, schedules, clarifications, assumptions, exclusions, and cost breakdowns.
  • Coordinate with project managers, field staff, safety personnel, and procurement to confirm production rates, means and methods, and project requirements.
  • Participate in site walks, pre-bid meetings, and field assessments to evaluate project conditions, access constraints, safety requirements, and estimating risks.
  • Identify potential risks, exclusions, assumptions, and cost impacts during the estimating process.
  • Ensure estimates reflect applicable environmental, health and safety, disposal, transportation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Organize bid documents, maintain estimate files, and manage assigned estimating tasks to meet proposal deadlines.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in environmental science, construction management, engineering, geology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience, preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in estimating, environmental services, construction, remediation, demolition, or field operations.
  • Working knowledge of environmental remediation, waste handling, construction drawings, production rates, subcontractor scopes, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, scopes of work, drawings, and contract requirements.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to build, review, and maintain detailed estimate workbooks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and PDF markup tools.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar takeoff software preferred.
  • Experience with estimating databases, ERP systems, Microsoft Project, or other scheduling tools preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with vendors, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates, priorities, subcontractor quote deadlines, and proposal due dates.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • This position is based in Atlanta, Georgia; hybrid or remote work arrangements may be considered.
  • Occasional site visits may require walking active construction or remediation sites.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment may be necessary during site visits.
  • Some travel may be required for pre-bid meetings, site walks, or field assessments.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Must comply with applicable company safety policies and site-specific requirements.
