The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) is hiring an Environmental Engineer Intern in the Environmental Services Department for a full-time summer internship in Lansing, MI. The role involves supporting compliance activities, data collection, and field work under supervision.

Pay rate is $23.00 per hour, with a May 17, 2027 to August 13, 2027 duration. Candidates must be enrolled in relevant programs and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited program with emphasis on environmental engineering, chemistry, or science and junior/senior status for Summer 2027.
• Must be enrolled in fall 2027 classes.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.

Responsibilities

• Creating procedures and checklists to assist with environmental compliance activities, record retention and file review.
• Publishing tank and chemical inventories to the SharePoint page.
• Developing SharePoint form for data collection (e.g., SESC inspection reports, or Spill Incident Reporting Forms).
• Perform field work - assist with emergency response and inspections.
• Up to 4 hours working in the environmental laboratory consisting of Quanti-Tray analysis and prepping glassware.
