Job summary

Indian Health Service's Sanitation Facilities Construction organization invites engineers to join a team that collaborates with American Indian Tribes to plan, design, and construct water, wastewater, and solid waste facilities.

The role includes site visits, evaluating system conditions, estimating costs, and providing training and technical assistance on sanitation practices, with opportunities related to the IHS Student Loan Repayment Program.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree from ABET-accredited program or equivalent.
• Professional licensure as a PE by a U.S. state, DC, Guam, or Puerto Rico is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with American Indian Tribes to increase and maintain access to water, wastewater, and solid waste facilities.
• Perform site visits to assess system conditions, locate mains, and determine pressures and layouts.
• Investigate malfunctioning system components, diagnose issues, estimate costs, and prepare recommendations.
• Provide training and technical assistance to Tribes on sanitation facilities, operator certification, and compliance with the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act.
• Complete sanitary surveys and other related tasks across various facilities.

Education

Engineering degree (ABeT- or ABET-accredited program)

Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
