Job summary

Washoe County seeks an entry-level Environmental Engineer II in the Community Services Department to perform a broad range of civil and environmental engineering tasks under supervision, including field water sampling and regulatory compliance.

The position emphasizes preparing practical solutions, interpreting plans and reports, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams while supporting public health objectives and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, hydrology, sanitary engineering, environmental engineering or closely related field.
• Valid driver’s license required at appointment and maintained for continued employment.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, performs a broad range of entry level engineering assignments requiring application of public health, environmental, and civil engineering principles, practices and theories.
• Perform field work, including collecting water quality and environmental samples, analyzing monitoring data, and using field observations to support evaluations and regulatory compliance.
• Interpret engineering plans, technical reports, regulations, and environmental standards.
• Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain technical information to coworkers, developers, consultants, regulatory agencies, and the public.
• Manage multiple projects and priorities while producing accurate, high-quality work and meeting deadlines.
