Job summary

Fishbeck in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking an Environmental Engineer to advance regulatory compliance on diverse projects, including permit applications and site evaluations. You will work with a team to ensure clients meet environmental standards and sustainability goals.

The role requires a BA/BS in Environmental or Chemical Engineering and 5+ years of experience in environmental compliance, with strong Excel skills and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or related field (minor in Sustainability is a plus).
• 5+ years of experience in environmental compliance (consulting, EHS management, or regulatory agency).
• Experience in hazardous waste management and environmental reporting.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for proposals and reports.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas and calculations).
• Strong time management, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit water-related permits (Groundwater Discharge, NPDES, Soil Erosion, Part 22).
• Collaborate on Special Use, Inland Lake and Stream permits, and Water Withdrawal Use registration.
• Develop environmental plans (SPCC, PIPP, HWCP, SWPPP) and complete associated requirements including inspections and collecting and assessing storm water samples.
• Maintain compliance records and reporting for environmental permits.
• Conduct compliance audits through inspections, data gathering, and document reviews; recommend corrective actions and prepare reports.
• Perform air emission inventories, compliance reviews, and greenhouse gas (GHG) calculations.
• Assist clients in achieving sustainability goals such as zero waste to landfill.
• Provide on-site regulatory assistance at industrial facilities.
• Build and maintain trusted client relationships.
