This is a Full-Time 40 Hours Weekly position with the Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources, working in both field and office environments. DANR’s Water Quality Program is looking for a talented Environmental Engineer to join our team. Engineers in the Water Quality Program assist with the implementation of the state’s Surface Water Discharge program (NPDES). Persons in this position collaborate with a wide variety of industries and public sector entities such as municipal wastewater operations. Our engineers work with the regulated community to solve technical problems and ensure protection of the water resource. Travel within the state is required for inspections; travel out of state for training and conferences is also required. Our team is responsible for helping grow South Dakota by working with municipalities and industries to promote economic development in an environmentally responsible manner. You will join a team of engineers and scientists who work together to protect and improve South Dakota’s water quality by regulating pollution and protecting human health and the environment.
Must have a degree in an engineering field (environmental, chemical, civil, mechanical, etc.) from an ABET accredited college. EIT is not required, but highly desired.
Desire for continual learning and strong problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental, civil, geological, or related engineering field from an ABET accredited college.

DANR offers a $2,500 hiring and retention incentive, half paid by your second paycheck and the remainder after 15 months of service (current state employees are not eligible).
