Job summary

Arcadis is seeking an entry-level Civil or Environmental Engineer to join our Resilience Environment team in Milwaukee, WI. The role starts in June 2027, with graduates encouraged to apply, and involves field and office work, travel, and collaboration with senior scientists and project managers.

You will support environmental assessment and remediation projects, assist with site investigations, design and reporting, and engage with clients and stakeholders to deliver sustainable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Experience with engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, HydroCAD, WinTR-55, PondPack, HEC-RAS, ArcGIS.

  • Perform civil/environmental engineering design including land development planning, hydraulic modeling, and earthwork layout.

Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an entry-level Civil or Environmental Engineer to join our team in Milwaukee, WI. This role is slated to start in June 2027. Candidates graduating in May 2027 are encouraged to apply. We are looking for a candidate with strong organizational and team building skills, who feels comfortable with a dynamic workflow.

As part of our Resilience Environment team, you’ll help improve quality of life. You will work alongside Senior Scientists, Project/Program Managers, and Technical Experts on various activities in support of diverse environmental assessment and remediation projects. This opportunity is to support our growing emerging contaminant project portfolio and remediation capabilities.

Role accountabilities:

Our services encompass a range of responsibilities aimed at engineering design and optimization support for treatment systems. You will specialize in providing program support for a diverse portfolio of projects underway, catering to both the US Federal Government and industrial clients.

You will actively participate in field investigations, sampling activities, pilot programs, and full-scale remedial efforts. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in fostering effective communication by engaging in face-to-face meetings with clients, technical teams, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities could include a combination of field and office related tasks and will include periodic travel.

These responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting Project Managers (PMs) and Task Managers (TMs) with planning and performing environmental site characterization, investigation, and remediation tasks.
  • Civil/Environmental engineering design including land development planning, hydraulic modeling/calculations, erosion and sediment control evaluations and layout, and earthwork site design
  • Assist with developing permit/construction-level drawings and details, preparing technical specifications, and construction cost evaluation/estimating
  • Prepare subcontracts and oversee the work of subcontractors.
  • Perform fieldwork with a focus on health and safety and which may include soil, sediment, surface water and/or groundwater sampling, geotechnical investigations, and construction oversight.
  • Writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda
  • Office work may include task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimates, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file reviews, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, and establishment of subcontracts.

The successful candidate will be involved in interpreting and evaluating field and analytical data in order to prepare engineering designs, permit applications, and construction-related documents. Environmental remediation design tasks, including soil and groundwater remedial system and in-situ technology treatment design and assessments are also a part of this exciting role. This position will require travel and field work.

In summary, an ideal candidate for the position would have proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong communication skills, a focus on health and safety, and excellent teambuilding and organizational abilities. These attributes will contribute to their success in the role and enable them to make valuable contributions to projects. Ideal candidates will also be self-motivated and exhibit independent thinking and have the ability to work successfully and efficiently in a team setting, as well as independently/remotely.

Field work will require regional business travel for up to 1-2 days per week on average. A few times per year, travel will be required within the U.S. for up to two weeks at a time. Estimated travel is up to 75% during the first two years, with travel reduced with career growth. By the third year, travel for field work is typically 50%. Travel expenses are reimbursable.

Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or closely related field (i.e., environmental, biological, physical science)
Preferred Qualifications
  • EIT Certification
  • Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or closely related field (i.e., environmental, biological, physical science)
  • Current OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training
  • Experience with engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, HydroCAD, WinTR-55, PondPack, HEC-RAS, ArcGIS

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
