About the Role
The Environmental Engineer will primarily support air permitting and environmental compliance projects, while also gaining exposure to water, waste, and other environmental initiatives. You will work alongside experienced engineers and environmental professionals to help industrial clients navigate complex regulations, develop practical solutions, and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and completion of air permit applications and ongoing environmental compliance activities.
- Assist industrial clients with meeting air quality requirements related to monitoring, recordkeeping, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Perform air emission calculations and develop emission estimates using methods such as mass balance, engineering judgment, and AP-42 emission factors.
- Conduct and support air-dispersion modeling for a variety of industrial processes and operations.
- Research, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local environmental regulations to industrial operations.
- Support projects involving the Clean Air Act (CAA), RCRA, CERCLA, Clean Water Act (CWA), NPDES, and SPCC requirements.
- Prepare and maintain accurate technical documentation, engineering calculations, compliance reports, and regulatory submissions.
- Assist with the preparation of SWPPP, SPCC, Tier II, TRI, RMP, and air permitting documentation.
- Work with state and local regulatory agencies on environmental permitting, compliance, and related issues.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting established deadlines, budgets, and project requirements.
- Collaborate with project teams, clients, and subject matter experts to identify practical and cost-effective environmental solutions.
- Stay informed on new and proposed environmental regulations and evaluate their potential impact on clients.
- Travel periodically within the United States to support client projects and field activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 0-3 years of experience in environmental consulting or industry, preferably involving environmental compliance and permitting under the Clean Air Act.
- E.I.T. certification is encouraged but not required.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; database experience is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to travel within the United States.
