Job summary

Firehawk Aerospace in Addison, TX, is seeking a highly motivated Environmental Engineer to join our EH&S team. This position ensures environmental compliance while supporting the safe manufacturing, testing, storage, and handling of energetic materials and explosive articles.

The Environmental Engineer will work closely with Infrastructure, Engineering, and Operations to develop sustainable solutions that protect the environment while supporting mission-critical production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or substantial equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of environmental compliance experience in manufacturing or industrial settings.
  • Working knowledge of EPA regulations: RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, EPCRA, TRI, DoD Hazardous Waste Disposal.
  • Experience obtaining and maintaining environmental permits.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Manage environmental permits and related programs.
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct environmental compliance audits, inspections, and assessments across facilities.
  • Develop and maintain environmental policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Support hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, transportation, and disposal activities.
  • Investigate environmental incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in PHAs, MOC reviews, and PSSR.
  • Evaluate environmental impacts of new equipment, facility modifications, and processes.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring activities including air, water, and soil sampling.
  • Support permitting for facility expansions and capital projects.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies during inspections and reviews.
  • Develop and deliver environmental compliance training to employees.

Position Overview

Firehawk Aerospace is seeking a highly motivated Environmental Engineer to join our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) team. This position is responsible for ensuring environmental compliance while supporting the safe manufacturing, testing, storage, and handling of energetic materials and explosive articles. The Environmental Engineer will work closely with Infrastructure, Engineering, and Operations to develop sustainable solutions that protect the environment while supporting mission-critical production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Manage environmental permits, including air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous waste, and spill prevention programs.
  • Prepare and submit required environmental reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct environmental compliance audits, inspections, and assessments throughout the multiple facilities.
  • Develop and maintain environmental policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Support hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, transportation, and disposal activities.
  • Investigate environmental incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs), Management of Change (MOC) reviews, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
  • Evaluate environmental impacts associated with new equipment, facility modifications, and manufacturing processes.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring activities including air, water, and soil sampling as required.
  • Support permitting activities for facility expansions and capital improvement projects.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies during inspections and compliance reviews.
  • Develop and deliver environmental compliance training to employees.
  • Maintain accurate environmental records and documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve sustainability, and minimize environmental risk.
  • Support emergency response planning related to environmental releases and spill response.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or substantial equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of environmental compliance experience in manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Working knowledge of EPA regulations, including:
    • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
    • Clean Air Act
    • Clean Water Act
    • Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-know Act (EPCRA)
    • Toxic Release Inventory (TRI)
    • DoD Hazardous Waste Disposal requirements
  • Experience obtaining and maintaining environmental permits.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with explosive, propellant, ammunition, or energetic material manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Experience conducting environmental audits.
  • Familiarity with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) requirements.
  • Experience managing environmental permits and agency inspections.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in manufacturing, laboratory, warehouse, and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
