Job summary

The Division of Fish & Wildlife's Species Conservation and Research Program in Delaware seeks a seasonal Biological Aide to assist with Wild Turkey, Northern Bobwhite quail and upland game projects near Smyrna. You will conduct field surveys, assist with trapping and banding, collect data, and support other programs as needed.

This limited-term position runs November through April, with no healthcare or pension benefits.

Introduction

The Division of Fish & Wildlife conserves and manages Delaware’s fish and wildlife and their habitats, and provides fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing and boating access on nearly 65,000 acres of public land. Fish and wildlife resource conservation and safe boating are achieved through promoting public compliance with laws and regulations. The division delivers hunter, boating and aquatic education programs, and provides licensing and boat registration services.

Summary Statement

This seasonal biological aide position with Delaware’s Species Conservation and Research Program will assist the state Turkey, Quail and Upland Game biologist with Wild Turkey, Northern Bobwhite quail and upland game species projects. The job responsibilities include conducting surveys for gamebirds, assisting with trapping and banding efforts, entering data into excel and other databases. Occasional assistance with other programs may be required (e.g. deer, waterfowl, game and non-game species).

Essential Functions

• Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
• Collects field samples and data.
• Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.

• Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
• Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.

• May assist in processing biological samples.

Job Requirements

• Six months experience in conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
• Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
• Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
• Six months experience in narrative report writing.
• Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Additional Posting Information

This position is limited term for 6 months from November to April. This posting may be closed on or before the listed closing date upon filling the vacant position(s). This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
