DLA Careers is seeking an Environmental Protection Specialist to oversee hazardous materials storage, disposal, and compliance across DLA Disposition Services. The role involves managing storage facilities, coordinating conforming storage operations, and ensuring environmental regulations are followed.

The position requires guidance on permits, inspections, and EMS implementation, with responsibilities spanning the environmental disposal program and coordination with field and sales teams.

Qualifications

• Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in environmentally sensitive material handling, storage, sale and disposal as related to DoD activities.
• Education substitution: graduate degrees may be used to meet basic qualifications per GS level, with transcripts.
• Combination of education and experience allowed per grade level GS-11 and GS-09.

Responsibilities

• Performs direct compliance responsibilities for physically stored hazardous materials at the DLA Disposition Services site, including 90-day hazardous storage facilities and conforming storage facilities.
• Coordinates a Conforming Storage Facility for hazardous materials generated across a state area or equivalent.
• Determines permit requirements, coordinates applications and ensures permits are obtained timely.
• Performs tasks related to environmental disposal programs, including hubs, retrogrades, special contracts or unusual waste streams.
• Conducts pre-receipt inspections of hazardous materials and waste generation.
• Provides guidance to field office personnel handling receiving/warehousing functions.
• Guides sales and reutilization personnel regarding RTD/Sales of hazardous materials and waste.
• Implements and administers an Environmental Management System (EMS) for designated sites.
