Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Covington, VA is seeking an Environmental Engineer to ensure compliance with environmental laws at a large Kraft pulp and paper mill. The role focuses on air regulatory programs and requires coordination with multiple departments to implement permits, reporting, and training.

The position includes on-site work in an industrial setting, weekend/on-call duties, and collaboration with sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in chemical, mechanical, environmental engineering or environmental science.
• At least one year of industry experience in environmental compliance (preferred).
• Ability to manage Air Permitting, Title V, air regulatory programs, stack testing programs and EPCRA programs.
• Proficient in MS Office; Excel and Word emphasized.
• Eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Provide updates and implementation to environmental plans and programs.
• Assist in developing permit applications for regulatory submission.
• Maintain relationships with other departments to communicate environmental needs and expectations.
• Ensure reporting, monitoring, training, policies, procedures and maintenance programs are in place for air permits and related programs.
• Support site sustainability efforts and collaborate with stakeholders.
• Environmental release response and assistance; on-call weekends/holidays when required.
