Job summary

WSP is seeking an Environmental Compliance Consultant to join our Earth & Environment Team in Exton, PA. The role blends regulatory compliance, auditing, and technical reporting with project delivery and client relationship development.

The position targets mid-level professionals who will mentor junior staff, contribute to complex programs, and collaborate with experts across WSP. Travel to client sites is required, and the environment emphasizes safety, quality, and regulatory excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Earth Science or a related discipline.
  • 7-10 years of experience with working knowledge of U.S. environmental laws including RCRA, CERCLA, SARA, CWA, CAA, and NJ/PA regulations.
  • Experience evaluating and maintaining environmental regulatory compliance in industrial settings.
  • Strong analytical skills, independent problem solving, and application of knowledge gained through progressive experience.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-sufficient, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous substances; OSHA medical surveillance may be required.
  • Must be willing to travel to client sites on short notice, including travel by air or land; overnight travel is required.

  • Conduct environmental regulatory compliance audits.
  • Synthesize information contained in regulatory files, permits, and other documentation.
  • Prepare written and verbal technical reports, including audits and field investigations, and develop graphical presentations for data interpretation.
  • Manage tasks and projects according to client-approved scopes of work and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget.
  • Mentor junior staff and assist in developing client relationships.

WSP has an opportunity for an Environmental Compliance Consultant to join our Earth & Environment Team. The position will be based out of our Exton, PA office (Hybrid). This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level professional to advance their career and collaborate with technical and professional experts within a leading global consulting company.

This role is ideal for a professional who enjoys supporting complex environmental compliance programs while remaining actively involved in regulatory compliance, auditing, technical reporting, and project delivery. The position combines environmental compliance consulting with opportunities to support project execution, develop client relationships, and mentor junior staff.

The Successful Candidate Will Play a Key Role In
  • Supporting environmental compliance programs for industrial clients
  • Conducting environmental regulatory compliance audits
  • Preparing technical reports and communicating regulatory findings
  • Managing tasks and projects in accordance with client-approved scopes of work
  • Assisting in managing and developing client relationships
  • Mentoring junior staff
Key Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities
  • Provide environmental compliance program support for industrial clients including but not limited to development and review of ongoing and new environmental compliance projects focused on:
    • National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) stormwater permitting and management support
    • Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and other Pollution Prevention Plans
    • Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) and storage tank management programs
    • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste reporting
    • Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) Tier II and Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting
  • Provide multi-media environmental support for compliance with applicable regulations, permits, and plans
  • Conduct environmental regulatory compliance audits
  • Synthesize large amounts of information contained in regulatory files, environmental permits, and other environmental documentation
  • Prepare written and verbal technical reports, including documentation of audits and field investigations, evaluation of regulatory findings, and development of graphical and tabular presentations for data interpretation
Project Management & Team Leadership Responsibilities
  • Manage tasks and projects according to client-approved scopes of work and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget
  • Assist in managing and developing client relationships
  • Mentor junior staff
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Earth Science or a related discipline
  • 7-10 years of experience with a working knowledge of U.S. environmental laws including but not limited to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Clean Air Act (CAA), and New Jersey and/or Pennsylvania state environmental regulations.
  • Experience evaluating and maintaining environmental regulatory compliance in industrial settings
  • Strong analytical skills, independent problem solving, and application of knowledge gained through progressive experience
  • Interest and proficiency in investigative work with a high attention to detail
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-sufficient, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous substances. Participation in an OSHA-mandated medical surveillance program will be required, and safety training will be provided before being assigned to work on these sites.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license
  • Must be willing to travel to client sites on short notice, including travel by air or land
  • Overnight travel is required
  • Understanding the importance of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • International regulatory knowledge
  • Experience conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments following ASTM International Standard E1527-13
  • Experience in air permitting and asbestos surveys and management
  • Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative (PSCI) auditing or compliance experience
