Job summary

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation is seeking a Communications Officer focused on Environmental program priorities. The role partners with the Communications team, grantees and external partners to shape and execute strategic communications, media outreach and digital content.

It requires strong client orientation, project management and a fluency in environmental voices and climate narratives. As the in-house adviser to the Environment Program, you will craft messaging, coach staff on

Qualifications

• Degree in communications, journalism or similar field.
• 7–10 years of relevant experience in strategic communications and client management.
• Experience cultivating relationships with media and stakeholders in environmental spaces.
• Experience managing external consultants (PR agencies and freelancers).
• Strong written and oral communications skills; knowledge of AP Style.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a strategic communications plan for the Environment Program and other initiatives.
• Cultivate and maintain media relationships related to Environment Program work.
• Provide tactical communications support to staff, including speaking engagements and articles.
• Collaborate to align internal and external messaging on institutional initiatives.
• Oversee digital content and advocate for staff and grantees' voices.
• Manage freelancers and external consultants when needed.
• Contribute to institutional communications projects and trainings.
• Advise programs on communications-related grant proposals and capacity needs.
• Cooperate across teams to advance cross-foundation communications.
