Job summary

The City of Madison is seeking an entry-level Transit Accountant to perform general accounting, accounts payable/receivable, and budget/grants work under the Transit Finance Manager. Advancement to Transit Accountant 2 and 3 occurs with experience and mastery over time.

Initial responsibilities include monitoring budgets, completing audits, reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, and supporting grant-related accounting and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in accounting related computer software programs.
  • -OR- Degree in Accounting or closely related field such as Finance; and proficiency in accounting software programs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monitoring operating budgets and compile budget-to-actual information.
  • Perform annual audit tasks and reconcile accounts.
  • Prepare journal voucher entries and financial statements.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable; manage grants and closings.
  • Support grant drawdown and reimbursement requests.
