Job summary

City of Colorado Springs is seeking an entry-level Traffic Signal Specialist I to install, troubleshoot, and maintain traffic signal cabinets, pedestrian indications, and ITS field devices. Training and growth are provided as you process through certification and gain field experience.

The role supports responders during emergencies, upgrades firmware/software, and assists in incident response planning while working under supervision in outdoor, traffic environments.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
  • One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field
  • Currently possess, or willing to obtain within 12 months, a valid ISMA Traffic Signal Field Technician 1 certification
  • Currently possess, or willing to obtain upon hire, a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal cabinets, pedestrian indications, and school flasher systems
  • Assist with cabinet wiring, grounding, and component replacement including load switches, power supplies, Malfunction Management Units (MMUs), and relays
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of electrical and electronic signal components under supervision
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of vehicle detection systems including, video detection, and radar
  • Support installation of ITS field devices such as CCTV cameras, dynamic message signs, field switches, and radios
  • Assist with pulling, labeling, and terminating fiber optic and copper communication cables
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and report deficiencies
  • Set up and remove traffic control devices in accordance with MUTCD standards
  • Maintain basic records of work performed and materials used
  • Respond to emergency signal malfunctions as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
