Job summary

Howmet Aerospace is seeking an Entry Level Tool Maker to read blueprints and operate machines to manufacture cold heading tooling. You will work with cold header operators, engineering and production to support lead time requirements on site in Mauston, WI.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, willingness to train, and proficiency with hand and power tools, blueprint reading, and tolerances. You will contribute to tooling development and maintain a clean toolroom while collaborating

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: 1–2 years in machining; apprenticeship or internship; willing to train.
  • Skills: Proficiency with hand and power tools, blueprint reading, and tolerances.
  • Soft skills: Problem solving, attention to detail, teamwork or independence, adaptability.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate machine tools such as mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, saws, and hones to fabricate dies and precision parts.
  • Read interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD/CAM models to understand specifications and tolerances.
  • Measure and verify dimensions using micrometers, calipers, and gauge blocks.
  • Assemble, adjust, and test completed dies or tooling to confirm they meet quality and performance standards.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Assist in tooling development by creating rough sketches or fabricating hardware based on engineering input.
  • Coordinate with engineers and designers to troubleshoot issues and suggest design improvements.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of toolroom.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Responsibilities

Howmet Fastening Systems is looking for an Entry Level Tool Maker. You must be able to read blueprints and operate all machines required to manufacture cold heading production tooling. You are responsible for manufacturing, assembly, component replacement and preventative maintenance for cold header tooling. You will work with cold header operators, engineering and production to support lead time requirements.

Job duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as conventional mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, saws, and hones to fabricate dies and precision parts

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: Preferred 1-2 years of related machining experience, apprenticeship, or internship in a manufacturing or tool and die environment. *Willing to train right individual*
  • Skills: Proficiency with hand and power tools, blueprint reading, and understanding of tolerances
  • Soft skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, ability to work independently or in a team, and adaptability to changing priorities
