Job summary

LJB Inc. in Houston, TX is seeking 2027 graduates for an Entry-level Structural Engineer in our Buildings Practice. You will analyze, design, plan, and create structural components and systems to meet project goals.

The role offers hands-on design experience in tilt-up construction and steel detailing, with a salary range of $76,000–$110,000 depending on experience and certifications. Travel may be required and a PE license is encouraged within four years.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or architectural engineering with structural emphasis.
• Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license within four years is desired.
• CAD experience (Revit and Bluebeam) preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Complete structural calculations for structural systems including superstructures, foundations, and floor slabs.
• Assist with the preparation of construction documents needed for vertical building structures.
• Coordinate with design staff to ensure accurate document and drawing production.
• Communicate with the team and clients regarding project issues and attend meetings under the direction of a supervisor.
• Maintain technical knowledge through completion of training initiatives.

Entry-level Structural Engineer Essential Functions

• Ability to complete structural calculations for structural systems including superstructures, foundations, and floor slabs.
• Assists with the preparation of construction documents needed for vertical building structures.
• Coordinates with design staff to ensure accurate document and drawing production.
• Communicates with the team and clients regarding project issues and attends meetings under the direction of a supervisor.
• Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training.

Additional Responsibilities And Duties

• Ability to analyze situations and identify ways to improve efficiency.
• Ability to react quickly and calmly to high-pressure situations.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team settings.
• Occasionally visits work site, monitoring project progress and reports findings.
• Ability to meet all safety requirements if/when visiting a work site.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Open to future growth of their position into a Project Manager role, if desired.

Education

ENTRY-LEVEL STRUCTURAL ENGINEER ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or architectural engineering with structural emphasis required.
• The ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license within four years is desired.

Qualifications

• CAD experience (Revit and Bluebeam preferred) STRAP or other structural analysis software experience preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
