Job summary

VHB is seeking an Entry Level Structural Engineer to join our Washington, DC, or Tysons, VA offices. The role focuses on the design of bridges, retaining walls, and related structures, supporting fieldwork, project management, and multi-discipline collaboration.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Civil Engineering (Structural Emphasis), 0–1 year of experience, and an EIT is preferred or obtainable within 6 months. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in the DC/VA area with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis required.
• 0-1 years of experience or internship in structural engineering.
• EIT preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Assist on high-profile projects and support project management, fieldwork and design.
• Perform conceptual, preliminary, and final design of bridges, retaining walls, and simple vertical structures.
• Draft project details and plans using MicroStation or AutoCAD; develop quantities and cost estimates.
• Support development through design to construction with supporting documentation and meetings.

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking an Entry Level Structural Engineer to join our group in our Washington, DC, or Tysons, VA offices.

Responsibilities

• Assist VHB team on high-profile projects like
  • Final Design of VRE L'Enfant Station in Washington, DC
  • Preliminary Engineering for CC2DCA multimodal bridge connection project in Arlington, VA
  • Arlington County Metro Ballston West Entrance Design-Build as well as several other high-profile transit and rail projects along the same corridor.
• Engineering efforts include supporting all aspects of project management, fieldwork, and design.
• Perform conceptual, preliminary, and final design of bridges, retaining walls, and simple vertical structures including traffic sign and signal supports
• Perform bridge inspections and load capacity ratings
• Perform bridge scoping studies and alternatives analyses
• Drafting of project details and plans using MicroStation software platforms
• Calculate construction item quantities and cost estimates
• Develop construction contract documents and specifications
• Support Project Development process from conceptual design through construction with supporting documentation
• Assist with preparing and documenting meetings with the design team, clients and major stakeholders
• Drafting of project details and plans using MicroStation or AutoCAD software platforms
• Work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-discipline team environment

The full-time annual base salary range for this position, located in Washington, DC, is $86,000 to $88,000. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program

Annual base salary is one component of VHB's Total Rewards package.
