Job summary

Tighe & Bond seeks an Entry Level Staff Engineer to join the Waterfront & Coastal Team in the Portsmouth NH or Providence, RI offices. You’ll support projects across the Northeast, tackle waterfront planning, and contribute to coastal resilience initiatives.

This hybrid role offers mentorship and growth within a respected, employee‑owned firm. You’ll work on site planning, design, field tasks, and cost estimates while expanding your skills in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering required.
• FE Exam and EIT certification or plan to obtain by June 2027.
• Experience through internships in surveying, engineering, permitting, or construction observation is expected.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with waterfront facility site planning and design, including ports, piers, seawalls, and shoreline protection.
• Draft figures, details, and plans.
• Conduct field work in support of design and construction projects, including geotechnical evaluations.
• Prepare design calculations, opinions of probable construction cost, and technical specifications.
• Observe construction progress and review submittals to create record plans.

Our Waterfront and Coastal Team and ProjectsOur Waterfront and Coastal group specializes in providing planning and engineering services to address the challenges of coastal and waterfront storm damage on infrastructure. With climate change having a significant impact on numerous communities, we focus on preventative measures to ensure resilience.Our team of nearly 120 Land Use & Transportation professionals across our 17 regional offices is dedicated to supporting our coastal resiliency projects.

Responsibilities, Requirements, and Total Rewards

What You’ll Be DoingAs a valuable part of ourWaterfront & Coastal Team, anEntry Level Staff Engineerwill support a variety of projects and gain hands‑on experience with responsibilities such as:

• Play a key role working on waterfront facility site planning and design, problem‑solving, and permitting assignments, including ports, piers, seawalls, and shoreline protection
• Draft figures, details, and plans
• Complete field work in support of design and construction projects, including geotechnical evaluations
• Prepare design calculations and opinions of probable construction cost
• Prepare technical specifications, memorandum, reports, and project correspondence
• Understand design standards and regulatory requirements
• Observe construction progress, review shop drawings and submittals, and create record plans

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
• Passed your FE Exam and obtained your EIT certification, or planning to by June 2027
• Relevant experience through internships in surveying, engineering, permitting, or construction observation
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Eagerness to learn, intellectually curious, self‑motivated, and excellent organizational skills

Preferred Requirements

• Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
• Hands‑on experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, STAAD, or RISA
• Understanding of structural and geotechnical engineering principles
