Job summary

Schnabel Engineering in Chadds Ford, PA is seeking an Entry‑Level (Staff) Engineer to join our growing geotechnical practice. We are looking for a motivated candidate to develop both field and analytical skills and grow as part of a strong team.

The role offers opportunities to work on dam/hydraulic projects, perform field work, and contribute to technical reports and construction documents. Strong communication and a collaborative mindset are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field required.
• Strong communication and team collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Apply professional principles, complex numerical models, and innovative solutions under supervision of senior staff.
• Assist in the preparation of CAD drawings for contract documents.
• Prepare complete plans and specifications for construction documents.
• Develop engineering recommendations and write technical reports.
• Perform design calculations for hydraulic structures including spillways and dam components.
• Perform inspections of dams and hydraulic structures.
• Collect data and measurements in the field.

Job Responsibilities

• Apply professional principles, complex numerical models, and innovative solutions to real‑world problems as part of a team of engineers and scientists while under the supervision of senior engineering personnel.
• Assist in the preparation of CAD drawings for contract documents and reports with input and guidance from senior engineers in accordance with internal drafting procedures and guidelines.
• Prepare complete plans and specifications to be part of construction documents.
• Develop engineering recommendations and write technical reports.
• Perform design calculations for hydraulic structures including spillways, dam outlet works, diversion and check structures, measurement flumes, and other various raw water infrastructure.
• Perform inspections of dams and hydraulic structures.
• Collect data and measurements in the field.

Required Skills/Experience

• 0-2 years of relevant professional experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Positive attitude
• Ability to multi-task
• Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self‑improvement
• Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several months away from the office

Preferred Skills/Experience

• Prior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e. geotechnical engineering, construction, civil engineering, etc.)
• Master’s degree
• EIT certification

Other Requirements

• Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license as driving is an essential function of the job
• Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening

The compensation range for this position is between $62,400 to $86,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
