Job summary

CalHR is seeking a Social Worker I to perform basic social services casework and manage a caseload under supervision. The role involves interview-based assessments, referrals to services, and documentation of case plans in line with NASW ethics.

Typical assignments occur within child welfare and adult services, with progression possible to Social Worker II after a year of satisfactory performance. Training and close supervision are provided.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
• One year of full-time experience in the Social Service Aide, Eligibility Specialist II, Employment and Training Worker II or comparable classification; OR three years of direct client services experience.
• Successful completion of 30 college semester units or 45 quarter units including 15 semester or 22.5 quarter units in social welfare or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interviews with clients and families to assess basic social, physical, and mental needs.
• Develop and carry out treatment plans for assigned caseload.
• Refer clients to community resources and assist in accessing services.
• Maintain case records and communicate decisions to clients and service providers.
• Participate in in-service training and staff development activities.
