Job summary

Kern Energy is seeking a Refinery Laborer to support the Maintenance Department in maintaining refinery equipment and property in a safe, environmentally compliant operation. The role involves routine tasks, collaboration with pipe fitters, mechanics, and other technicians, and adherence to PPE and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of refinery processes and operations.
• Familiarity with refinery equipment and functions.
• Basic mechanical aptitude to operate and troubleshoot equipment.
• Strong analytical skills to identify trends and issues.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance tasks at the refinery such as gathering materials, trash clean up, re-fuel equipment, painting, assembling, moving, and installing furniture, file cabinets, and document boxes.
• Ensure cleanliness and organization in the refinery area, including removing debris, cleaning equipment, and maintaining a safe working environment.
• Work as part of a team and collaborate with refinery staff including pipe fitters, mechanics, welders, crane operators, and I/E techs.
• Assist with equipment repairs such as piping, pumps, vessels, exchangers, boilers, etc.
• Conduct routine inspections, replace faulty parts, and perform basic maintenance tasks to ensure proper functioning of machinery.
• Maintain accurate records and logbooks of equipment readings, production data, and operational activities such as status and completion of work orders.
• Prepare reports on production levels, equipment performance, and any incidents or abnormalities.
• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents, wearing PPE, following procedures, and participating in safety training.
• Provide support during turnarounds.
• Willingness to take initiative to assist wherever needed in the refinery.
• Willing to work overtime and receive callouts as needed.
• Willing to work nights and potential inclement weather in an industrial environment.
• Document information in the CMMS.
