Job summary

Smurfit Westrock plc is seeking entry-level laborers for versatile mill tasks. You may operate a forklift, assist with housekeeping, and support dry/wet end operations, including overhead crane work for roll moves and packing.

The role requires lifting up to 50 lbs and a willingness to participate in the safety program. The position is rotating with union membership after 90 days; a drug screening follows a conditional offer.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the safety program and works to exceed all safety standards and requirements mandated by the plant and OSHA.
• Maintain general housekeeping around mill, including dumping hoppers/trash and cleaning floors/walls.
• Assist with Housekeeping Audit action items as directed by area owner.
• Assist with general duties in dry end/wet end (overhead crane to move rolls, cut cores, slab and band slabs).
• Use forklift as required to move broke, supplies, etc.

These entry level positions provide labor for various tasks around the mill including picking up paper, operating forklift, cleaning, etc.. Will fill in for vacancies in entry level positions as needed. Must be able to carry/lift 50 lbs. Candidates with previous experience operating forktruck or other mobile equipment are preferred, but that experience is not necessary for consideration. This is a rotating shift position and membership in the Union is required after 90 days.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

• Participates in the safety program and works to exceed all safety standards and requirements mandated by the plant and OSHA
• Maintain general housekeeping around mill, including but not limited to: dumping hoppers/trash, cleaning floors / walls, general cleanliness of mill
• Assist with Housekeeping Audit action items as directed by area owner
• Assist with general duties in dry end / wet end as required, which may include: use of overhead crane to move rolls, cutting of cores, slabbing rolls and banding slabs to prepare for transport to trailer
• Use forklift as required to move broke, supplies, etc.
• Keeping supplies stocked in areas throughout Mill
• Knowledge and understanding of Mill training system, policies, and processes
• Other duties as assigned

What you need to succeed:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• REQUIRED SKILLS: Ability to use tools/equipment such as: forklift, simple hand tools, clamp truck, yard tractor, banding machine, utility knife, roll pusher
• PREFERRED SKILLS: Comfortability with heights, confined space, ability to lift 50 lbs and carry up to 25 lbs
