Job Description

Under general supervision, the Officer will be responsible for performing a variety of duties related to the protection of life and property, enforcement of criminal and traffic laws, preservation of public peace, and the apprehension of violators of the law.

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Successfully complete a comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation.
  • Pass written entrance examination and oral interview.
  • Pass physical agility test required for police training academy.
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Illinois Criminal Statutes, Illinois Vehicle Code, local ordinances, and civil law related to police mission.
  • Knowledge of village geography and department policies.
  • Knowledge of modern approved principles, practices, and procedures of police work.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Effective verbal communication during normal and stressful situations.
  • Safe vehicle operation under normal and stressful circumstances.
  • Skill in firearms and defensive tactics.
  • Enforce laws with impartiality and firmness.
  • React effectively and calmly during conflicts and emergencies.
  • Gather info and prepare concise reports.

Responsibility

  • Daily work supervised by officers, guidelines provided by policies.

  • Routine patrol, investigation and traffic regulation duties.
  • Handling varied situations with flexibility and decision‑making under pressure.
