Responsibilities

Cast Operator Reports to: Leadman

Position Summary

The Cast Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of centrifugal casting equipment used to produce stainless steel and alloy tubular castings. This role covers die preparation, monitoring the pour of molten metal, controlling casting parameters, and extracting and inspecting finished castings. The operator works in a high-heat foundry environment and is expected to consistently follow all safety, quality, and production standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Set up and operate centrifugal casting machines according to job specifications and process parameters (rotation speed, pour rate, temperature, and timing).
• Prepare, clean, and apply refractory coatings to dies; preheat dies to required temperatures prior to pouring.
• Monitor and assist with the transfer and pouring of molten stainless steel and alloys into rotating dies.
• Control and adjust machine settings during the casting cycle to ensure proper metal distribution, wall thickness, and dimensional accuracy.
• Extract castings from dies after solidification and stage them for cooling, cutting, or finishing.
• Perform visual and dimensional inspection of castings; identify surface defects, dimensional deviations, or other quality issues and report or scrap as required.
• Accurately record production data, heat/pour information, and quality checks per work instructions.
• Perform routine cleaning, minor maintenance, and inspection of casting equipment, dies, and tooling; report equipment issues to the supervisor.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S and housekeeping standards.
• Follow all safety procedures, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and comply with foundry exposure-control and hazard-communication requirements.
• Support other production tasks and cross-train on related equipment as directed.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent, or comparable work experience.
• Ability to read and understand job specifications, work instructions, and basic measurements.
• Ability to work safely around molten metal, high heat, and heavy equipment.
• Willingness to work assigned shifts, including overtime and weekends as needed.

Preferred

• Prior experience in a foundry, casting, or metals manufacturing environment.
• Experience with centrifugal casting or molten metal handling.
• Familiarity with basic measuring tools (calipers, gauges) and quality inspection.
• Ability to communicate in English and Spanish.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Work is performed in a foundry setting with exposure to high temperatures, molten metal, noise, dust, and fumes.
• Requires standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
• Must be able to lift and move up to [50] lbs. and handle tooling and castings, with assistance or equipment as needed.
• Required PPE includes [flame-resistant clothing, face shield/safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respiratory protection, and steel-toe boots — specify per exposure control plan].
• Must adhere to all applicable silica and hexavalent chromium exposure-control requirements.

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay range: $20-30/ hour based on experience
• Retention bonus within the first year of employment: $400 at 90 days, $600 at 6 months, and $1,000 at 1 year.
