Entry-Level Mechanical Insulator Requirements & Responsibilities
Position Summary

Assist with measuring, cutting, shaping, and installing insulating materials on pipes, ductwork, and other mechanical systems in commercial and industrial settings while learning the mechanical insulation trade under the guidance of experienced team members.

Essential Job Functions

To perform this position successfully, the following responsibilities must be performed satisfactorily. These functions are representative, but not all-inclusive, of what is necessary to succeed in this position.   • Assist experienced mechanical insulators with the installation, removal, and repair of insulation on pipes, ductwork, tanks, vessels, heat exchangers, and other mechanical systems.
  • Measure, cut, and shape insulation materials to specified dimensions.
  • Prepare surfaces for insulation application by cleaning surfaces, applying adhesives, or attaching insulation pins as directed.
  • Learn to identify and use appropriate insulation materials for various applications.
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, and equipment required for the job.
  • Sweep, clean, and organize jobsites, tools, and materials.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials and equipment as needed.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality workmanship, safety, attendance, and productivity.
  • Work collaboratively with crew members and other trades on construction jobsites.
  • Constantly and consistently work according to the physical requirements of the job, as indicated below under Working Conditions and Physical Demands.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Previous construction or mechanical experience is preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to learn the mechanical insulation trade through hands-on training.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to jobsites preferred.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to use or learn hand and power tools safely.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Must be able to constantly and consistently work according to the physical requirements of the job, as indicated below under Working Conditions and Physical Demands.
  • Must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance. Mechanical lifting devices are available to support heavy lifting as needed.
