Job summary

Dennis Group is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer for the Carlsbad, CA area to assist in designing and implementing mechanical systems for food and beverage facilities. You will contribute to HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression design, develop P&IDs, layout plans, and system details, and support cross-functional teams.

The role requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering, up to 3 years of related experience, and the ability to travel ~10–25% to project sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 0-3 years of work experience or schooling in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics.
• 0-3 years of work experience or schooling with HVAC/plumbing/fire protection designs and specifications.
• 0-3 years of work experience or schooling performing calculations in energy, drainage, line loss, etc.
• Basic report writing and communication skills.
• FE/EIT certificate preferred.
• Strong technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform heating and cooling load calculations.
• Perform mass energy balance calculations.
• Perform drainage and line loss calculation.
• Develop HVAC, plant utility, plumbing, and fire suppression systems.
• Assist in mechanical system design development and coordinating with other internal and external team members.
• Develop equipment and construction specifications.
• Develop P&ID's, equipment layout plans, plant/process utility distribution plans, and system details.
• Size and develop layouts for ductwork and piping plans.
• Assist with BMS controls development and coordination with electrical/controls engineers.
• Create project documents such as calculations, reports, and construction drawings and specs.
• Perform site visits and submittal reviews to verify construction per design intent.
• Research mechanical/utility materials and best practices.
• Support talent growth within our organization.
