Job description

Job Description The Role: ME TRACK provides one shared foundation with multiple pathways for intentional career development.

ME TRACK is an early-career rotational program designed to build manufacturing engineering breadth, technical depth, and plant/launch experience. Participants complete four assignments in a six-month rotation model. Every assignment is connected to a common ME TRACK foundation: Design: Develop manufacturing design capability across tools, production equipment, automation technologies, and engineering requirements. Build: Develop, validate, and deploy manufacturing engineering solutions, including production tooling, quality systems, and automated equipment. Integrate: Apply physical testing, analytical modeling, and process-engineering methods to evaluate how components, equipment, and processes work together across vehicle manufacturing and assembly operations. Confirm: Execute manufacturing validation methods and support design reviews using FMEA insights, empirical test data, and process-risk analysis.

The Team:

The successful candidate will apply engineering principles, data analysis, and structured problem-solving to improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to vehicle, propulsion, battery, components, or other advanced manufacturing programs from process development through production launch and ongoing improvement. This role may require regular time in manufacturing areas, including exposure to operating equipment, production lines, noise, temperature variation, and personal protective equipment requirements. Occasional travel, extended hours, or adjusted schedules may be required to support trials, launches, equipment installations, or critical production activities.

What You’ll Do:
  • Support the design, development, validation, and implementation of manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Analyze production processes, workflows, equipment, and capacity to identify constraints, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, standardized work, layouts, process flow diagrams, and operating instructions.
  • Collaborate with product engineering, production, quality, maintenance, controls, safety, supply chain, and equipment suppliers to resolve issues and achieve program milestones.
  • Participate in process trials, equipment installations, run-at-rate events, launch activities, and production readiness reviews.
  • Apply lean manufacturing and problem‑solving methods to reduce waste, improve flow, optimize labor and equipment utilization, and support cost‑effective operations.
  • Use data and performance metrics to investigate root causes, evaluate alternatives, and measure the effectiveness of improvements.
  • Support tooling, equipment, automation, ergonomics, material presentation, and line‑balancing activities as assigned.
  • Help identify and mitigate manufacturing, quality, safety, and operational risks.
  • Prepare technical presentations, project updates, recommendations, and status reports for cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure that manufacturing processes meet applicable quality, safety, environmental, and company requirements.
  • Build relationships with plant personnel and learn the end‑to‑end manufacturing process through collaboration and time in the production environment.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross‑functional, team‑oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in manufacturing, automation, process improvement, or engineering operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a changing environment.
  • Willingness to work in a plant, laboratory, or other manufacturing environment and follow required safety practices.
  • Proficiency with common productivity tools, including spreadsheets, presentations, and technical documentation.
  • Must be graduating between December 2026 to June 2027.
  • Must be willing to work in a plant environment.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Internship, co‑op, project, or previous experience in manufacturing, automotive, industrial, or engineering operations.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, structured problem solving, value‑stream mapping, PFMEA, control plans, or statistical analysis.
  • Experience with CAD, manufacturing simulation, data visualization, programming, automation, robotics, controls, or industrial engineering tools.
  • Exposure to manufacturing systems, production metrics, equipment qualification, process validation, or supplier coordination.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Job locations can be at Manufacturing Engineering headquarters in Warren, Michigan or in various plant locations throughout the U.S.

Plant locations may include: Warren, MI Detroit‑Hamtramck, MI Flint, MI Lansing, MI Orion, MI Milford, MI Fort Wayne, IN Arlington, TX Bowling Green, KY Spring Hill, TN Wentzville, MO Fairfax, KS. Travel varies based on assignment and may be required to strategic partners and plants.
