Job summary

Moog Inc. in Blacksburg, VA is seeking an Entry Level Machinist to operate basic machine tools and support manufacturing operations.

This full-time, onsite role offers training opportunities and a pathway to develop core machining skills within a supportive team environment. Responsibilities include setting up drill presses, lathes, milling machines, and grinders, while ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or ability to understand and follow instructions in English.
• At least one year of completion of an approved Machine Technology program or equivalent.
• ATDM graduates encouraged to apply.
• Proficiency in general mathematics.
• Knowledge of machine shop gauges and machines.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic drill press, lathe, milling, and grinding operations.
• Care and use turning/plunge and form tools properly.
• Operate shear vise, tapping machine, and various taps/dies (metric and standard).
• Use power hand tools, grinders, drills, belt sanders, and sanders.
• Operate power band saw and cut-off saw; select speeds and feeds; replace blades as needed.
• Complete required paperwork and records.
• Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

Onsite – Blacksburg, VA

We are currently hiring Entry-Level Machinists and have opportunities available on all shifts. This is a full-time, onsite position based in Blacksburg, VA, with a Monday through Friday schedule.

This position is eligible for a sign on bonus.

To be considered for the Entry Level Machinist role, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:

• High School diploma or GED preferred. Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• At least one-year completion of an approved Machine Technology program, including high school or vocational program or equivalent.
• ATDM (Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing) graduates encouraged to apply.
• Proficiency in general mathematics
• Knowledge of machine shop gauges and machines

As An Entry Level Machinist, You Will

• Perform basic drill press, lathe, milling machine, and grinding operations.
• Responsible for the care and application of turning/plunge and form tools.
• Operate shear vise, tapping machine (manual and power), and understand different styles and types of taps and dies (metric and standard)
• Operate different types of power hand tools, grinders, drills, belt sanders, disc sanders, sand, and bead blasters.
• Operate and understand power band saw, cut off saw, proper selection of speeds, feeds, tooth size, blade welding, guide setting, and blade replacement.
• Complete required paperwork
• Other duties as assigned

Salary Range Transparency

Blacksburg, VA $18.50–$20.00 Hourly
